The Holy Face
I salute Thee, I adore Thee, and I love Thee, 0
Jesus, my Saviour, outraged anew by blasphemers; and I offer Thee,
through the heart of Thy
blessed Mother, the worship of all the Angels and
Saints as an incense of sweet odor, most humbly
beseeching Thee, by the virtue of Thy sacred
Face, to repair and renew in me and in all men
Thy image disfigured by sin. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be to the Father.
Prayer
PIUS IX
0 my Jesus, cast upon us a look of mercy; turn
Thy face toward each of us, as Thou didst to
Veronica, not that we may see it with our bodily
may ever draw from this fountain of strength the vigor necessary to sustain the combats of life.
Amen.
Beautiful Calm Holy Face
SISTER M. BERNARD (Shortland)
Beautiful calm holy Face!
Now disfigured, but full of grace,
Torn and bleeding and reviled
Yet, withal, divinely mild.
Wounded, bleeding, gracious Face,
Fairest form that earth doth grace,
Face that fills my heart with tears
And my soul with awful fears,
For I there can truly trace
Blows I dealt in that sweet Face.
Pardon, Jesus, pardon now!
Let me kiss that sacred Brow,
All unworthy though I be:
Pardon, Jesus, pardon me! Invocation

Reparation of Honor to the Blessed Sacrament
Most adorable Savior, in Thy wondrous love
for us Thou dost remain in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, in order to be the perpetual
Sacrifice of the New Law, the propitiatory Victim
for our sins, the life-giving Manna of our souls
our powerful Mediator, our good Master, our
best and kindest Friend.
But, alas! with what ingratitude on our part
has Thy infinite goodness been repaid! Prostrate
before Thy veiled Majesty, at the foot of the
Altar, where Thou art as truly and really present
as in Heaven, we come to make reparation and
offer atonement for all the injuries and for all
the ingratitude inflicted on Thee in the Sacrament
of Thy love.
0 Divine Jesus, 0 meek and humble Jesus,
accept our feeble efforts to compassionate Thy
suffering Heart, and to make a fitting reparation
to Thy outraged Majesty for all blasphemies,
profanations and sacrileges ever committed; for
our own want of devotion and reverence in Thy
sacred Presence, for our poor preparations and
thanksgivings at Holy Communion, and for the
little fruit we have drawn from Holy Communion through our own fault.
Pardon o Lord, pardon we beseech Thee, these and all our offenses
against Thee, we are truly sorry for having sinned, because Thou art
infinitely good and sin displeases Thee. Thou wilt
not despise a contrite and humble heart. We offer
Thee our poor hearts filled with sentiments of
sincere repentance and deep affection. We offer
Thee, in atonement, Thy own bitter sufferings,
the sorrows of Thy Blessed Mother, and the
merits of all the Saints. By the fervor of our
love we desire to make amends to Thee for the
injuries inflicted on Thee by ourselves, by infidels,
heretics, and all negligent Christians. Yes, Jesus,
we love Thee now above all things, and we are
resolved to please Thee by doing Thy will and by
faithfully discharging the obligations of our state
of life. Thy kingdom come! Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven!
How happy should we be, 0 Jesus, could we
but make reparation to Thy glory, by our respect,
by our zeal, aye, even by the shedding of our
blood! At least, most adorable Savior, grant us the grace to love
Thee in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar, with the most tender, the most
generous, the most perfect, the most constant
love.
0 Sacrament most holy, 0 Sacrament Divine.
All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine!
o Virgin most holy, by thy holy and immaculate
Sweet St. Joseph! obtain for us the gift of

For the Community
Sweet Jesus, enclose in Thy Sacred Heart all
the Members of this Community. Grant that,
faithfully observing our Holy Rules and Vows,
we may be more and more inflamed with Divine
love, and praise Thee with increasing gratitude
for an endless eternity. Amen.
For the Living and the Dead
0 most merciful Jesus, have mercy on Thy
Church, have mercy on all for whom Thou hast
shed Thy Precious Blood. Convert all poor
miserable sinners. Recall heretics and schismatic.
Enlighten infidels who do not know Thee. Help
all who are in any necessity or trial. Be with all
who have asked, or who desire my prayers; with
my parents, relations, and benefactors. Make all
men pleasing to Thee. Grant to the living, pardon
and grace; to the faithful departed, rest and light,
For all men I offer Thee Thy Precious Blood;
all that Thou hast willed to do and suffer for our
salvation. I offer all the merits of Thy life on
earth for all our necessities, dear Lord and Master. Petitions for Graces

0 ye blessed Angels of God!
0 all ye Saints of Paradise, men and women,
obtain for me these graces which I ask through
the precious Blood of Jesus Christ:
Ever to do the holy will of God;
Ever to live in union with God;
Never to think of any one but God;
To love God alone;
To do all for God;
To seek only God's glory;
To sanctify myself for God alone;
To know well my own utter nothingness,
Ever to know more and more the will of my
God.
Mary, most holy, offer to the Eternal Father
the most precious Blood of Jesus Christ for my
poor soul, for the holy souls in Purgatory, for the
wants of Holy Church, for the conversion of sinners, for all the world.
Then say Glory be to the Father three times in honor of
the most holy Blood of Jesus Christ; one Hail Mary in honor
of the sorrows of Mary most holy, and one May the sole's in behalf of the holy souls in Purgatory.
For all Things Necessary for Union with God
and virtues. Give me true humility, obedience
meekness and charity. Give me a perfect control
over my tongue and over all my members and
senses. Give me cleanness of heart, detachment
of spirit, inward liberty and true recollection of
soul. Conform my spirit to the spirit of Thy
blessed Human Nature, my soul to Thy holy Soul
and my body to Thy most pure Body. By the
light of Thy Godhead calm and enlighten my
inmost soul. I believe that Thou art within me
according to Thy Godhead; deign therefore to
see by my eyes, to hear by my ears, to speak by
my tongue, and to use all my members and powers
as best pleaseth Thee. Grant to my soul a fountain of water, springing up into life everlasting,
in order that I may know Thee clearly, may love
Thee ardently, be united to Thee intimately, and
rest in Thee by quiet possession for the praise of
Thy Name. Hear me, 0 God, not according to
my will, but according to Thy good pleasure, and
in the way best fitting for Thy honour and my
salvation. Amen.
To the Infant Jesus
Eternal God, made an Infant for love of us, to
Thee do I offer each little child, whom for Thy
love and in honour of Thy holy Childhood I will
devote my whole strength to instruct and save. Grant that I may ever
behold the in the children confided in my care, oh, never permit, my Jesus, that any act or word of mine should
scandalize Thy little ones.
Let me share in Thy humility, Thy charity, and
Thy gentleness to all. Grant Thy blessing to my labors and bring me safely to Heaven, where
surrounded by these little ones whom I taught to
love Thee, I may praise Thee and bless Thee for
ever! Amen.
Conversation with Jesus
Guardian Angel—Jesus is very lonely. He is so weary waiting for those whom He loves, but who
forget Him. Let us visit Him. Walk gently;
the church is a holy place; God is here. Kneel
and adore Him. It delights the dear Heart of
Jesus to have you near Him; listen to His sweet
voice speaking to your heart.
Jesus—My child, you need not know much in
order to please Me; only love Me dearly. Speak
to Me as you would talk to your mother if she
had taken you in her arms. Have you no one to
recommend to Me? Tell Me the names of your
relatives, of your friends; after each name, .add
what you wish Me to do for them. Ask: a great deal; I love generous hearts that forget themselves for others.
Tell Me, about the poor whom you want to help,
the sick whom you have seen suffer, the sinner
to win back. For all recite a fervent prayer.
Remind Me that I have promised to grant every
prayer that comes from the heart; and surely the
prayers are heartfelt which we say for those
whom we love and who love us.
Have you no favors to ask for yourself? Write
if you like, a long list of all your wishes, all the
needs of your soul—and come and read it to Me.
Tell Me simply how selfindulgent you are, how
proud, touchy, selfish, cowardly, idle; ask Me to
help you to improve. Poor child, do not blush!
There are in heaven many Saints who had the
same faults as you; they prayed to Me, and little
by little they were cured.
Do not hesitate to ask Me for the goods of body
and mind—for health, memory, success. I can
give everything, and I always give when the gifts
would make souls more holy. What do you want
today, My child? Oh, if you knew how I long to
do you good!
Have you no plans to interest you? Tell Me all
about them. Do they concern your vocation?
What are you thinking of doing? What would
you like?—Are you planning some pleasure for
your mother, your family, your guardians ? What
do you wish for them?
And have you no thought of zeal for Me? Do
you not care to do a little good for the souls of
what motive urges you, what means you wish to
take.
Confide to Me your failures: I will show you
the cause. Whom do you wish to see interested
in your works? I am the Master of all hearts,
my child, and I lead them gently where I please.
I will place about you those who are necessary to
you; never fear!
Have you nothing to annoy you ? My child tell
Me your annoyances, with every detail. Who has
pained you? Who has wounded your self-love?
Who has treated you contemptuously? Tell Me
all, and then say you forgive and forget, and I
will give you My blessing.
Do you dread something painful? Is there in
your soul a vague fear which seems unreasonable,
and yet torments you? Trust fully in My providence. I am here; I see everything; I will not
leave you.
Are there about you friends who seem less
kind than formerly, who neglect you through
indifference or forgetfulness, without your having
consciously done anything to wound them? Pray
for them, and I will restore them to you, if their
companionship be good for you.
Have you no joys to tell Me? Why not confide
to Me your pleasures? Tell Me what has happened since yesterday to console you, to make you
have received some mark of affection—a letter, a
present; some trial has left you stronger than you
supposed. All these things, My child, I obtain for
you. Why are you not grateful? Why do you
not say, I thank you? Gratitude draws benefits,
and the benefactor loves to be reminded of his
bounty.
Have you no promise to make Me? You know
I read the very bottom of your heart. Men are
deceived, but not God; be frank.
Are you resolved to avoid that occasion of sin,
to give up the object which leads you astray—not
to read that book which excites your imagination;
to withdraw your friendship from that person who
is irreligious, and whose presence disturbs the
peace of your soul? Will you go at once and be
kind to that companion who annoyed you?
Well, My child, go now and resume your daily
work. Be silent, modest, patient, charitable; love
the Blessed Virgin dearly; and tomorrow bring
Me a heart even more devoted and loving. Tomorrow I shall have new favors for you.
Prayer
0 Divine Jesus! lonely to-night in so many
tabernacles, without visitors, without worshipers,
I offer Thee my lonely heart, and may its every
beating be a prayer of love for Thee. Thou art
ever watching under the Sacramental veils. In
0 loving Jesus! 0 lonely Jesus! may my
heart be a lamp, the light of which shall beam for
Thee alone. Watch, Sacramental Sentinel, watch
for the weary world, for the erring soul, and for
Thy lonely child. Amen.
Spiritual Communion
What a comfort to me, 0 my God! were I in
the number of those whose opportunities allow
them to receive Thee daily! What an advantage,
could I, at this instant, possess Thee in my heart,
there pay Thee my homage, lay open to Thee my
wants and share in the favors which Thou grantest to those who receive Thee really!
But since I cannot today, 0 Lord, receive Thee,
accept instead my ardent wish to be united to
Thee; cast Thine eye upon me and give me Thy
grace. Pardon me my sins; I detest them from
the bottom of my heart, because they are displeasing to Thee.
Soon make it possible for me to
approach Thy Holy Table, and until the arrival
of that happy day, I earnestly entreat Thee, 0
dearest Lord, to make me a sharer in all the
advantages which Holy Communion produces in
Thy favored ones. Increase my faith by the
virtue of this Sacrament, strengthen my hope, fill

BARRETT'S TRANSLATION
Of Jesus sweet the very thought,
It fills my soul with purest glee,
But more than honey, more than aught,
His presence, oh, how sweet to me!
There is no sweeter theme for song,
No sound more soothing to the ear,
No sweeter thing my thoughts among,
Than God's own Son, my Jesus dear.
Jesus, Thou hope of sorrowing heart,
To those who ask Thee aught, how kind I
To those who seek, how good Thou art!
But what art Thou to those who find!
No tongue of man could ever say,
Nor written word can teach us this,
0 Jesus all our gladness be—
Our guerdon Thou some day—
Be all our boast, our joy in Thee
Through the eternal years always.
For Daily Communion
Indulgenced
Most sweet Jesus, Thou didst come into the
world to give unto all souls the life of grace, and
in order to preserve and increase it in them didst
will to be the daily remedy of their infirmity and
their daily food. By Thy Heart so burning with
love for us, we humbly beseech Thee, pour out
Thy Divine Spirit upon all souls, and cause such
as are, alas! in mortal sin to turn to Thee and
regain the life of grace they have lost, and such
as by Thy gift are living already with this divine
life to approach Thy Holy Table every day they
can, and so by means of daily Communion receive
every day the antidote of their daily venial sins
and every day nourishing in themselves the life
of Thy grace and thus purifying their souls ever
more and more, come at length to gain a happy
life with Thee. Amen.

ST. LEONARD OF PORT MAURICE
Indulgenced
My Jesus, mercy! Pious Contract
An easy and excellent method of glorifying God
and of amassing treasures of merit.
Jesus! Beloved Lord, my joy, my comfort, my
hope, my love, my all. Well dost Thou know
that my desire to love, serve, and glorify Thee is
above, everything. But in my poverty and sin
on my wretchedness and confirm the compact
whereby I bind myself henceforth unto death.
1. Whenever, dear Jesus, my eyes shall rest
on my crucifix, on the image of Thy Divine
Heart, or on any devout object whatever, it shall
be a sign that I would offer a token of my undying
love; of my firm conviction that the true happiness of my life is to think of Thee, dear Lord, to
love Thee, to serve Thee; of my enduring hope to
see one day face to face Thy infinite Beauty, and
to contemplate Thy unbounded perfections.
2. Again, dear Jesus, whenever I place my
hand on my heart, regard it as a token that I
would offer to Thee this unworthy but loving
heart of mine; that I deem Thee alone capable of
filling it; that I would have Thee cleanse it from
the dross of earthly affections, and enrich it with
Thy Divine Charity, that it may beat for Thee
with a love rivalling that of Seraphim and
Cherubim, of Saints, and especially of Thy Immaculate Mother. Let this action be a testimony
of the deep sorrow I feel at seeing Thee so little
loved by the mass of men; a sign of my supreme
joy at beholding Thee so beloved by Saints,
Angels, and Thy Mother Mary, and so tenderly
regarded by the August Trinity.
3. I desire each aspiration of mine to be to
Thee, dear Jesus, a proof of my wish to be united
Thy glory, that so I may daily grow dearer in Thy
sight. Let every breath I draw be a pledge of
the absolute donation which I make to Thee of
my liberty, will, understanding and heart.
4. I declare, my Lord, that in each and all my
actions, in every word I utter, in each glance of
the eye, in each footstep I make, in every thought
of my mind, and in every pulsation of my heart, I
would give Thee joy, glory, and honor, praise,
adoration, and thanksgiving equal to all that
throughout eternity will be rendered Thee by
Saints and Angels, and would be rendered by the
men of infinite possible worlds.
Confirm and bless, dear Jesus, this compact
which binds to Thee forever the most unworthy
of Thy creatures.
A brief manner of renewing this compact, is to
place the hand on the heart, and recite some
formula like the following:
Dear Jesus, Thou knowest what I would testify
by this action.
Properly to understand how meritorious is the
practice here recommended, a single reflection
will suffice. Were a man to propose in every
action of his life to offend God, his chastisement
would be proportionate to the number of actions
committed under this perverse will. But God,
in His infinite mercy, is more inclined to reward in heaven a recompense commensurate with the
virtuous deeds which he performs.
Jesus
I need Thee, precious Jesus,
I need a friend like Thee!
A friend to soothe and sympathize,
A friend to care for me.
I need Thy Heart, sweet Jesus,
To feel each anxious care;
To listen to my every want,
And all my sorrows share.
I need Thy Blood, sweet Jesus,
To wash each sinful stain;
To cleanse this sinful soul of mine,
And make it pure again.
I need Thy wounds, sweet Jesus,
In flight from perils near,
To shelter in their hallowed clefts,
From every doubt and fear.
I need Thee, sweetest Jesus;
In Thy Sacrament of Love,
To nourish this poor soul of mine
With the treasures of Thy love.
I'll need Thee, sweet Jesus,
When death's dread hour draws nigh,
To hide me in Thy Sacred Heart

ST. FRANCIS XAVIER
0 God, my love is all for Thee,
Nor love I Thee that Thou save me,
Nor yet because who love not Thee
Thou doom'st to burn eternally.
Thou, Thou, my Jesus, on the tree
In full embrace didst gather me.
The nails, the spear-thrust Thou didst bear
And ignominy's bitter share;
Unnumbered grief's, the sweat, the dread
Death; these, for me and in my stead—
A sinner—Should I not love Thee,
0 Jesus, Who didst so love me?
Not that in Heaven Thou save me.
Nor lest Thou doom eternally,
Nor for reward, whate'er it be;
But as Thou gav'st Thy love to me
I give, will give, my love to Thee

I would not change one memory
In all my book of life,
Tear out one stained, discolored leaf,
Forget one pang or strife. The records of my darkest sins
I would not, could not spare,
They teach the power of saving grace
And break my heart in prayer. The sad mistakes that I have made
Must blind my eyes with tears,
As oft I turn and wonder o'er
Yet sweet as golden lines of joy,
Dear Lord, those gifts must be
That give my vision wider range,
And bring me nearer Thee. By work that has been poorly wrought,
My careless hand may learn
The highest truths of grace and skill
Far better to discern. So what is written let it stand,
Nor blot one word away:
All things shall work for good to their,
Who trust, and watch, and pray.
