CONFESSION

After Confession
THANKSGIVING

Bless the Lord, 0 my soul: and let all that is within me bless His holy Name!

Bless the Lord, 0 my soul: and never forget all He hath done for thee!.

Who forgiveth all thy iniquities: who healeth all thy diseases.

Who redeemeth thy life from destruction: who crowneth thee with mercy and compassion.

The Lord is compassionate and merciful: longsuffering and plenteous in mercy.

He hath not dealt with us according to our iniquities: nor rewarded us according to our sins.

As far as the east is from the west: so far hath He removed our iniquities from us.

As the Father hath compassion on His children: so hath the Lord compassion on them that fear Him.

For He knoweth our frame: He remembereth that we are but dust.

Bless the Lord, all ye His Angels: ye ministers of His, that do His Will!

Bless the Lord, all His works in every place of His dominion: bless the Lord, 0 my soul!

PRAYER BEFORE SACRAMENTAL PENANCE
O my Lord and my God, I offer Thee the penance I am going to perform, and I unite it to the infinite satisfaction of Christ my Saviour.

Grant that the abundant merits of Thy dear Son Jesus, and the immense extent of the love of His Sacred Heart, may supply the imperfections and feebleness of the works which I shall perform, and the punishments I wish to endure to satisfy Thy Divine Justice. Amen.

PRAYER AFTER PERFORMING SACRAMENTAL PENANCE
0 most holy Father, I offer Thee this my confession and satisfaction, in union with all the acts of penance which have ever been done to the glory of Thy Name; beseeching Thee that Thou wouldst vouchsafe to accept it; and to render it availing through the merits of the Passion of Thy beloved Son, and through the intercession of the ever blessed Virgin Mary and all Thy Saints. I beg of Thee, 0 good Jesus, to supply for all my deficiencies out of the abundance of Thy infinite merits, and to effectually absolve me in Heaven even as Thy minister, with Thy authority absolved me here on earth; through Jesus Christ. Amen.

JESUS
When I can scarcely read or pray,
When troubled thoughts my soul dismay,
His precious Name I softly say,
Jesus! Jesus!

0 swifter than a mother's ear,
Her infant's feeble cry to hear,
Is His to catch the trembling prayer,
Jesus! Jesus!

When sins committed long ago,
Cause bitter tears of grief to flow,
One thought alone can calm our woe:
Jesus! Jesus!

If like a flood the foe come in,
With thought of unbelief and sin,
His mighty Name the fight shall win,
Jesus! Jesus!

If worn by long-continued pain,
I sigh for rest and sleep in vain,
Weary I breathe this prayer again,
Jesus! Jesus!

0 let His precious Name be said,
In whispers o'er my dying bed;
So shall my soul be comforted.
Jesus! Jesus!

And when upon the other shore,
We sin and sorrow never more,
His praise shall echo o'er and o'er,
Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!

MISERERE
Have mercy on me, 0 God, according to Thy great mercy.
And according to the multitude of Thy tender mercies blot out my iniquities.
Wash me yet more from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my iniquity, and my sin is always before me.

against Thee only have I sinned, and have done evil Detore inee: tliat lliou mayest be justified in Tliv words, and mavest overcome when Thou art judged.

For behold I was conceived in iniquities; and in' sins did my mother conceive me, For behold Thou hast loved truth: the uncertain and hidden things of Thy wisdom Thou hast made manifest to me.

Thou shalt sprinkle me with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed: Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow.

To my hearing Thou shalt give joy and gladness : and the bones that have been humbled shall rejoice.

Turn away Thy face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.

Create a clean heart in me, 0 God: and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Thy face; and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me.

Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit.

I will teach the unjust Thy ways: and- the wicked shall be converted to Thee.

Deliver me from blood, 0 God, Thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall extol Thy justice.

0 Lord, Thou wilt open my lips: and my mouth shall declare Thy praise.

For if Thou hadst desired sacrifice, I would indeed have given it: with burnt offerings Thou wilt not be delighted.

A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit: a contrite and humble heart, 0 God, Thou wilt not despise.

Deal favorably, 0 Lord, in Thy good will with Sion; that the walls of Jerusalem may be built up. Then shalt Thou accept the sacrifice of justice, oblations, and whole burnt-offerings: then shall they lay calves upon Thine altars.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

AFRAID!
Afraid, dear Lord? No, not afraid
Of Thy judgment's just decree,
But ashamed, my God, Ah! yes, ashamed
To lift my eyes to Thee!
Ashamed of One Whom I dearly love,
Who gave me a work to do,
Who coming at even findeth me
To my noble Friend untrue.
If I feared Thee, Lord, I could not go on.
Then I'll choose the better part.
I will hide myself and my broken life
In the depths of Thy Sacred Heart.
I will kneel at Thy Feet and with head bowed low
In shame at the waste of years,
But hopeful still, for my crucified God
Yet waiteth my penitent tears.

SCRIPTURE TEXTS
Salvation to our God, Who sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb!

Benediction and glory and wisdom and thanks giving, honor and power, and strength to our God for ever and ever ! Amen.

Great and wonderful are Thy works, 0 Lord God Almighty; just and true are Thy ways, 0 King of ages.

Salvation and glory and power is to our God! Alleluia.

Give praise to our God, all ye His servants:
and you that fear Him, little and great!
0 give thanks to the Lord, because He is good:
because His mercy endureth for ever and ever!
Let them say so that have been redeemed by the Lord, whom He hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.
0 all ye Religious, bless the Lord: praise Him and give Him thanks, because His mercy endureth for ever and ever.

HYMN TO THE PRECIOUS BLOOD
Hail, Jesus! hail, Who for my sake
Sweet Blood from Mary's veins didst take
And shed it all for me.
Oh, blessed be my Saviour's Blood,
My life, my light, my only good,
To all eternity!

To endless ages let us praise
The Precious Blood, Whose price
The world from wrath and sin;
Whose streams our inward thirst appease,
And heal the sinner's worst disease,
If he but bathe therein.

0 sweetest Blood, that can implore
Pardon of God, and Heaven restore,
The Heaven which sin had lost:
While Abel's blood for vengeance pleads,
What Jesus shed still intercedes
For those who wrong Him most.

Oh, to be sprinkled from the wells
Of Christ's own sacred Blood excels
Earth's best and highest bliss:
The ministers of wrath Divine
Hurt not the happy hearts that shine
With those red drops of His!

Ah! there is joy amid the Saints,
And Hell's despairing courage faints
When this sweet song we raise:
Oh, louder then, and louder still,
Earth with one mighty chorus fill,
The Precious Blood to praise!

ACTS
My God, I believe most firmly in the efficacy of Your Sacrament which I have just received. I believe that You have washed me from iniquity  and cleansed me from my sin; that as far as the east is from the west so far have You removed my iniquity from me.

I know, my God, that I am wanting in confidence in You. I know You say to me time after time, 0 thou of little faith! Yet see how I come to You week after week for my absolution. Is there any want of trust here? Is there the least misgiving as to Your forgiveness? Can You not say to me at least after confession. Great is thy faith! I desire to glorify You greatly by my faith.

My God, I trust You, I trust You with all my soul. Oh, it is easy to trust You after confession.

I trust to You my past, my present, my future. I trust to You my soul, my body, my life and my death, my trials, my temptations, my salvation, my eternity—and had I anything more, dear Father, or more precious, I would trust it all to You. I desire to glorify You exceedingly by my trust.

My God, I love You. I love You with all my heart and soul and mind and strength. My God!

My God! Oh, blessed thought, that in spite of all the past, You are still my God. Be mine always, intimately mine, and I ask for nothing more in time or in eternity. For what have I in Heaven, and besides Thee what do I desire upon earth? . . . Thou art the God of my heart and the God that is my portion for ever! I desire to glorify You above all by my love. And in the spirit of love I renew my Vows.

Eternal Father, I offer You, together with my Vow of Poverty, my soul with all its powers beseeching You to give me strength from Your omnipotence to resist all things that are contrary to Your praise, reverence, and service, and to dispose of me in all things according to Your will, Take, Lord, and receive!

Eternal Son, I offer to You, together with my vow of Chastity, my body with all its senses, beseeching You of Your unsearchable wisdom to give me prudence, to detect and avoid whatever may offend Your pure eyes, and to dispose of me in all things according to Your Will Take, Lord, and receive!

Eternal Spirit, I offer You, together with my vow of Obedience, my heart with all its affections, beseeching You of Your overflowing goodness to give me grace to cleave to You with such constant fidelity that I may never in any the least point swerve from Your guidance—and to dispose of me in all things according to Your will. Take, Lord, and receive!

Eternal Lord of all things, I make my oblation with Thy favor and help, in presence of Thine infinite goodness, and in presence of Thy glorious Mother, and of all the Saints of the Heavenly Court.

You promise me a hundred fold, my God, for offering You my Vows; would that I could offer you a hundred fold for accepting them! I believe, my Jesus, that Your blood, through his Sacrament, has flowed over my soul; that You have purified it, and adorned it with fresh gifts. I thank You, and I renew my resolution not to commit again this sin especially. I will impose upon myself a penance if I fall into it again. Bless, 0 my Jesus! all my efforts.
