HOLY MASS Words of St. Vincent
ASSIST with such great devotion and modesty every day
at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, that you may edify
all who see you. What do you do when you assist
at Mass? It is not the Priest alone that offers the Sacrifice
of the Mass; those present offer it with him. I am sure when
you have been well instructed in these Holy Mysteries, you
will conceive great sentiments of devotion.
One of the Sisters asked me some day since, whether it
would be better to make her meditation, or to hear Mass?
The question is not an unimportant one; you should hear Mass
every day, if possible, but, if the necessary duties of the house
or the service of the poor interfere, you may, without
hesitation, omit hearing it. Now, as to choosing between
hearing Mass or making your meditation, I would say that
if you have half an hour, you can do both at once. Go to
Church at the appointed hour, make the preparatory prayers
with the Priest, saying the Confiteor to obtain pardon for
your sins, in order that your prayers may be more acceptable
to God. Then, having the book with you at church, enter
on the subject of your meditation, which you. should have
read the preceding evening.
As much as possible, though, you should make your
meditation at the house. |
