MENTAL PRAYER First Method 1. Let your mind repose a little, seated or
walking, think what you are going to do and for
what purpose.
2. Make a preparatory prayer, asking grace
to know well your duty, to realize your failures in
it and help to improve in future, for the greater
glory and praise of His Divine Majesty. Direct the prayer to Our
Lord, or to Our Lady, etc., according to the thing you want to get, or the person you wish to imitate.
3. Take the items, one by one. Ask yourself
how you have behaved in each head, how you
have been deficient. If you find that you have
failed, ask pardon and say an Our Father or
a Hail Mary, etc., according to the person you
made the preparatory prayer to.
Dwell about the space of three Our Fathers and Hail Mary's on each
item. Pass more rapidly
over heads under which you find less matter for
consideration, but dwell longer on those that give
you more food for thought and examination.
4. At the end, make a colloquy, according
to the subject matter, and address the person you
prayed to in the preparatory prayer, or another,
or several.
5. Jot down notes of your lights and resolves
in your spiritual diary. |
